A Letter from our Principal about Fundraising:

September 17, 2008

Dear TMES Families,

I hope you like our new building as much as we do!  Our new building took two years to finally come to fruition with countless hours of work.  But the work is not done!  I realize the beginning of the school year is busy for us all, but as an APS charter school, Montessori Elementary relies on the generosity of our families to help our school thrive.  We need your help!

How you can help

We encourage you help us in anyway you can.  We have several volunteering opportunities, along with three different fundraisers to benefit our school.   The 'Sponsor a Shelf', 'Donate a Door' and 'Buy a Brick' campaigns have begun.  Look below for an explanation of each.  We understand that not every family budget allows for monetary donations.  A donation of your time is very valuable to us too!   Some volunteering ideas are below.  Please consider donating your time or money, as we strive to make TMES the best environment for educators and parents striving to create a better world and educational opportunities for our children and future generations.

'Donate a Door'

The Montessori method promotes community learning and peer teaching.  Our classrooms were designed to promote a 'community' feel and most spaces have a double door access between them.  Our budget this year did not allow us to purchase and install wooden doors with windows between each classroom.  We are in need of 6 double doors, 1 single door, and the labor to install them.  A donation of $500 will purchase and install a door in one of our classrooms.

'Sponsor a Shelf ‘

Another aspect of the Montessori method is to create an attractive environment.  Classrooms have beautiful open-back shelves to neatly display the student’s manipulatives /materials.  These Montessori materials are placed in sequential order with purpose on each shelving unit.  They are essential to the flow of a Montessori classroom.  With our large classrooms and additional materials, comes a need for more shelves for classroom work.  There were not enough funds to supply the amount of shelves we would like in each classroom.  In our continuing effort to provide our students and teachers with the best possible space to teach and work in, we have started a collection to purchase new wooden shelves for our learning materials. A donation of $200 can purchase a shelf for your child’s classroom.

'Buy a Brick’

Leave your mark on our school!  For just $100, you can reserve an engraved brick to commemorate the opening of our new building. The limited-edition pavers will be placed in a prominent position at our new building and will be engraved with the names of our supporters.  See the attached order form for more details.

Volunteer your time

Throughout the year we are in need of volunteers to help us in various ways.  We need volunteers for: daily drive thru pick-up, event help (International Children’s Day, Jog-a-Thon, the golf tournament, art or science fair, etc.), the Fundraising Committee, making of Montessori materials for classroom’s and more.  If you have any special talents that you can donate (Intel employees, handy-men, office help, etc.) or simply your time, please let us know.  We truly appreciate your valuable time that you spend with us.

We have had a wonderful response from parents who have offered to volunteer their time and money, but we always appreciate new recruits. If you would like to sponsor a wooden shelf or donate a door for your child’s classroom, buy a brick or donate your time as a volunteer to help on an as-needed basis, please call our volunteer “hot-line” (front desk) at 796-0149 or email reception@tmesnm.com.  You may also send in the attached forms in your child’s communication folder.  We appreciate any and all help, thank you for your consideration.

Thank you for your continued dedication and support.

Sincerely,

Mary Jane Besante,  TMES Principal
